In this weekend’s first reading when we hear, “But if he turns from the wickedness he has committed, he does what is right and just, he shall preserve his life,” we immediately ask ourselves, “is it ever too late?” What if I have been a sinner all of my life and have forgotten our Lord? What if I have committed a very grave offense? Will God forgive me? Is it too late?
The answer is that it is NEVER too late, for God will ALWAYS forgive. Many times we doubt that we are worthy, or we believe that the sin we have committed is unforgiveable. What we tend to forget is that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and it is He that has carried the burden of our sins and paid the ransom for many. It is Jesus Christ who shed his blood and died upon the Cross so that we may turn to Him and say, “Jesus, I’m sorry.”
We turn to Our Lord, and He turns towards us, and embraces us, forgives us, and loves us. No matter what. There is no sin too big, or too ugly, or too frequently committed that the precious Blood of Christ cannot wash away. There is absolutely NOTHING that Our Lord will not forgive, and it is NEVER too late. All we have to do is turn to Him and let him love us. Never doubt this. Every time you look to the Crucifix, you see God waiting to love you. All you have to do is come to Him.
